16th January 2019: Victoria Riley.
Wow- what a full house for our first meeting of the New Year- existing members, new members & visitors! Burnley based batik fanatic Victoria told us about the history & styles of Indonesian batik, together with her experiences of living there & understanding the processes involved. Just when you thought you knew all about wax, think again, batik design, colours & the tools not as simple as you may imagine!

The Knitting & Stitch Show- Harrogate 2018

A thoroughly enjoyable day as a coach load of local stitchers descended on Harrogate. As usual we all ended up with purchases we need ( an eclectic selection!) & were inspired by a number of artists & exhibitors. Watch this space as we try & attract them back to Chelford to talk to us!

21st November 2018: Beth Barlow
Beth's work was very thought provoking as she describes herself as a 'socially engaged artist' whose 'in depth work within communities, negotiating new relationship where everybody's expertise is acknowledged and creating works which are truly specific to the dynamics of particular communities.Seeking inspiration from real world issues and communicating complex issues simply' ( quote from her statement).

17th October 2018: Julia Midgley
Local artist Julia took us on a journey from her documentary drawings in her sketch books to the ultimate making of the final print. Julia's sketches were exquisite & often many facets of various individual sketches would find themselves in a final print. Just shows how important it is to carry a sketch book & pen at all times. 

19th Sept. 2018: Maria Boyle
Maria started off our new season with a talk on her work inspired by colour & texture. She likes to work with soft materials of cloth often in a muted hue, with added hand stitch to create one off pieces.
A number of members opted for the ' Harmonious Colours' workshop the next day which explored the origin of colour in more detail & what these tones can mean to us in our every day life.

18th July 2018: Mark Beecroft
Fascinating evening to finish the season by taking stitch / structure to a new dimension by working in 3D & its implications for a variety of industries. Mark's work as a senior lecturer at Manchester  Metropolitan University is part of this future. We can't show any pictures because it's so new . You saw it with us first !! What would our grandparents have thought from their early knitting days to the 3D printed textiles informed by knitted structures.

20th June 2018: Members Evening
Due to a last minute speaker cancellation we held a members evening when we were asked to bring a piece of work which we were working on, had inspired us or an aspect of work we would like to achieve. This proved to be a successful meeting & gave the Committee plenty of ideas for next years programme & workshops.

16th May 2018: Diana Morrison
North West based artist Diana Morrison delighted us with her unique designs & sumptuous colours in hand dyed silk.

18th April 2018: Rachel Howard
A very enjoyable talk from textile artist Rachael Howard & how she translated her illustrations inspired by her travels to India or just simple every day life in to art & fashion. Currently working as a tutor at Bath University, she has also worked with re-known designers like Paul Smith in utilising her illustrations on ties, as well as her exhibitions travelling around the world.

Israeli born Ariella focuses on fabric collage with material crated herself finished with applique, hand stitch & paint . She has exhibited around the world & also forms part of the 62 Group.

15th November 2017: Sabine Kussmaul
Cheshire based Sabine ( www.sabinekussmaul.co.uk) brought her own distinctive style to her talk & the interesting use of a single thread. The photos do not really do the work justice. Her framing was also very creative.

18th October 2017: Lisa Watson
Manchester based Lisa Watson ( www.quiltsbylisawatson.co.uk) brought some beautiful work/ fabric which she creates & makes into quilts/ cushions. She is passionate about created & made in Britain & her folklore designs were particularly pretty as well as recycling vintage fabrics.
